School design challenge winner announced!

A grade two class from St Peter’s Primary School in Bentleigh East has won the exclusive opportunity to have a customised LEGO replica of their school created and publicly showcased at LEGOLAND Discovery Centre Melbourne.

St Peter’s Primary School won the opportunity after Grade 2 student, Jake (aged 8), was declared the winner of LEGOLAND Discovery Centre Melbourne’s creative design competition. The competition challenged school students to develop an interpretive design of their school in any medium, including drawing, painting, model, sculpture or digital design.

We were looking for a combination of creativity, artistic interpretation and how much effort was put into the design – Jake’s submissions had high levels of all of these.

We loved the creativity of Jake’s submission for St Peter’s Primary School, which utilised cardboard and crafts items including icy pole sticks, pipe cleaners and polystyrene. The submission accurately resembled the actual school building, and the scale was done exceptionally well too!  What really appealed to us were the finer elements such as flags and basketball ring - such awesome attention to detail!

LEGOLAND Discovery Centre's Master Builders are really excited to start work building the LEGO replica of the school in a special project that’s expected to take 60 hours. The completed LEGO school will be unveiled to the students on Tuesday 25 June and will be displayed in the attraction’s popular MINILAND exhibit – a large-scale LEGO brick model of Melbourne that has been created from more than 1.5million bricks. The LEGO school will then be provided to the winning school for permanent ownership.

Jake has won $100 worth of LEGO products from the LEGOLAND Discovery Centre Melbourne store and students and teachers from the Jake’s class will participate in a free School Workshop at LEGOLAND Discovery Centre Melbourne. All students from the winning year level have won a free school excursion to LEGOLAND Discovery Centre Melbourne.

LEGOLAND Discovery Centre Melbourne encourages children to enjoy a world of creativity, colour and brick-building fun in Australia’s ultimate indoor LEGO playground. The centre runs interactive school excursion programs that are aligned to the national curriculum and inspire students’ imaginations through educational play experiences.
